Keeping Poker Records
There are a lot of ways that you can improve your performance in Poker, and one of the most efficient is by maintaining a record of the vital areas of the game. This is something that you will eventually find useful as you play on.
By keeping records, this does not just mean that one should keep track only of the wins and losses of a particular session. However, a lot of players do this, but you should avoid it. The fact is that on every night you will be playing a lot of hands. In online Poker, you can play a hundred hands per hour.
This is not a good Poker strategy, because what players end up doing is that when they are in the red, they will try to play on until they at least get even. Instead they end up getting the tilt and lose more money.
This is where keeping a record becomes a good Poker strategy. As you commence playing, you should maintain a list of how much you are actually winning on a monthly basis. By looking at the results daily, you will often lose sight of the big picture, and get caught up in a particular session.
For instance, without a clear Poker record, you will find yourself trying to win a big pot, even at the risk of putting up a lot of money. However, by keeping track, you will know exactly where you are standing financially, and this will help you not just make better decisions, but also help you make a better assessment of your situation.
Even if you lose some games, by knowing that you are actually making a profit, you will prevent yourself from making a poor decision, such as altering your Poker playing style. Similarly, when you are losing out in the profits, you will see that you will need to make adjustments as you play on.
Aside from your wins and losses, you should try to create a separate list for the opponents that you play against, your thoughts and observations of them; you should also have one for the Poker rooms or casinos that you play in, etc.
This need not be comprehensive, but simply writing down your impressions on these things will help you play much better Poker in the long run. Remember, the key in the game in all about information, and the more you have, the better served you will be.
