Playing 7th Street in 7 Card Stud
The seventh card in 7 Card Stud is of course, the equivalent of the river in shared Poker games. In some instances your hand will already be made before it is dealt, and in others it will not be. Whatever the case may be, it will affect everyone, who wins and loses, so it is important to know how to proceed.
The 7 Card Stud strategy of all players will depend on the six cards they currently have. If you have the feeling that your hand is beat, then you should fold right now, because the bets are very high, and if it is a high stakes game, you might lose your entire stack.
Conversely, if you are confident of holding the monster hand, then your 7 Card Stud strategy would be to squeeze everything out of all the players on the table. If you had hidden your hand well, then you can raise and re raise, because no one w ill suspect that you have the monster hand.
If you are uncertain of where you stand, you can make a fine guess based on a number of factors, including the up cards and the ways the 7 Card Stud players bet and raise. As you play you will recognize who on the Poker table who are the tight and loose. Obviously tight players that fold means they have weak hands, and those that remain have the strong cards.
If a tight player were to remain, and then make a big raise, then your 7 Card Stud strategy would be to consider your own hand. Are you confident that it is the nuts? Remember that you are in seventh street; if a tight players makes a bet, you can be certain that it is not a bluff.
If you are left holding a high pair because the straight you were looking for did not play out, then the proper 7 Card Stud strategy would be to fold. But if you have the opportunity, you should check. Why? Because this will give you the chance to see what kind of hands the other players make use of. This will come in handy in the next Poker hand.
However, another school of thought is that one should never fold in seventh street. The reason is that provided you play with select hands, you always have a chance to win. The worst thing that can happen to you, some 7 Card Stud players believe, is to fold, only to find out that your low pairs actually could have won, because your opponent was bluffing.
Bluffing is rare in 7 Card Stud, particularly in the latter stages, and it is risky. If it is a strategy that you want o try, make sure that your up cards have some value. You need an Ace or other face cards, in order to throw a scare.
There are, as you will see, several ways to play the final card on 7 Card Stud. What works best is something that you will find out as you play the game, and you will not only gain insights, but also learn new ways to win the game.
